摘要
Psychedelics, integrated with professional counseling demonstrates remarkable potential for clients struggling with depression and substance use. While several studies highlight the therapeutic utility of psychedelic therapy, little progression currently exists in counseling. Major impediments of utilizing psychedelics could be the historical public stigma associated with the substances, cultural appropriation, and ethical concerns. Although reservations might exist, research indicates psychedelics are a viable option for clients. Psychedelic-assisted groupwork (PAG) or psychedelic-assisted counseling (PAC) can potentially be an innovative, culturally sensitive, and transformative method. This article aims to inform the counseling profession about the potential of this creative fusion through four parts. First there is a discussion of what psychedelics entail therapeutically. Second and third are recommendations on educational resources and how to avoid cultural appropriation, including operational steps. Fourth are limitations and implications that conclude the article.
