The Brazilian public administration has been moving since the last state reform towards what has been called New Public Management (NGP), and, from there, tools and practices adopted by the private sector have been playing an increasingly relevant role for the public sector. An example of this is project management, which contributes to more effective and efficient results in projects carried out in the public sphere based on their knowledge areas and process groups. This study is a systematic literature review, of a descriptive and exploratory nature, which used the CAPES Periodicals Portal database in order to assess how the monitoring and control process has been addressed in articles aimed at researching project management in the brazilian public sector. The finding after analyzing nine articles is that production in this regard is still quite scarce, and uses monitoring and control, as a rule, in a transversal character in the areas of knowledge of project management, but covering different sectors of public management, such as universities, judiciary and armed forces, and various activities, being applied in finance, information technology, procurement and public works.
