The maturitymodels in records management and archives: an effective tool for evaluation, planning and continuous improvement

The use and application of management tools for the evaluation and planning in several topics of the archival field has been constant for at least the last two decades. Within this type of tools, maturity models stand out, which have not been used by the archival community, mainly due to the lack of knowledge of the potential of this type of instrument. In countries like the United States, Australia, New Zealand, Australia, South Korea, as well as in several European countries, maturity models are often used to evaluate and plan the progress of their records management initiatives. This article makes a description of the types of maturity models, their development, benefits and importance and develop a proposal that can be applied in Iberoamerican countries.
