EXPERIMENTAL EVALUATION OF THE INFLUENCE OF AMIODARONE ON WOUND HEALING

Various physiological processes can be impacted by voltage -gated potassium channels, such as repolarization of neuronal or cardiac action potentials, upregulation of calcium signalling and cell volume, stimulation of cell proliferation and migration. Amiodarone in different concentrations blocks specific different types of ion channels: at a low concentration, the blockage is limited to potassium channels, at a medium concentration it blocks potassium and calcium channels, and at a high concentration, it blocks potassium, calcium, and sodium channels. Previous research has shown that low -dose amiodarone, which blocks only potassium channels, has a favourable effect on wound healing. In this experiment, we set out to test the effects of amiodarone on the healing process, using 3 doses to evaluate the influence of blocking potassium, calcium and sodium channels in healing. Amiodarone in low concentration decreased statistically significantly the average duration of wound healing, which confirms the hypothesis of this experiment according to which calcium channel blockade and sodium channel blockade do not completely antagonize potassium channel blockade, but only decrease its intensity.
