Consider this problem.From a large herd of cattle,cowhands drove away 230 steers.There were 575 steers left in theherd.How large was the original herd?One way to answer this question is to solve an equation.Let S be the number of steers in theherd.Then,by the Take-Away Model for Subtraction,S-230=575.
