TREATMENT OF INFANTILE DIARRHEA WITH NEOMYCIN

1.In 1957,202 patients with infantilediarrhea were seen by the authors.56.8%of the patients had pathogenic serotypesof E.coli cultured from the stools.Neomy-cin was very effective in the control ofdiarrhea in these patients.2.Syntomycin and other antibioticswere not so effective in the treatment ofinfantile diarrhea.3.Neomycin was also very effectivein infantile diarrhea in which pathogenicserotypes of E.coli were not cultured fromthe stools.The reason is not yet known.4.25 mg of neomycin per kg bodyweight per day seemed to be as effectiveas 50 mg of neomycin per kg body weightper day in the treatment of infantilediarrhea.
