Towards sustainable mobility: factors influencing the use of electric vehicles in Spain

The transition to electric vehicles (EVs) is a key component in addressing environmental and energy challenges, particularly in urban areas. By replacing internal combustion vehicles with electric alternatives, a cleaner and more sustainable mobility model is promoted, which will help improve the quality of life in cities and achieve global sustainability goals. This study aims to explore users' perceptions and attitudes towards EVs in Spain, focusing on key factors such as resource accessibility, safety, economic impact, environmental responsibility, and frequency of use. A questionnaire was administered to a sample of 326 EV users, and the data were analyzed using SPSS v27. The results highlight a generally positive attitude towards EVs, especially regarding their environmental benefits and the technological advancements that facilitate their use. However, significant concerns exist regarding economic costs and infrastructure availability, which hinder broader adoption. The study’s findings suggest the need for specific policies and incentives to address these barriers and promote the adoption of EVs in Spain. This research contributes to the existing literature by providing specific insights into the Spanish context, where EV adoption lags behind other European countries.
