摘要
A novel structurally simple and symmetrical element for the design of polarization-universal metasurface (PUM) lens antennas is proposed, which demonstrates exceptional applicability for millimeter-wave communication. The PUM lens consists of four layers with circular patch components inserted in the outer ring distributing themselves periodically across the layers. The PUM's phase shift is independent on the polarization feeding antenna since the symmetry of the element. The linear polarization (LP) and circular polarization (CP) antennas are used to verify the polarization versatility of the PUM. The simulated and measured results reveal that the PUM lens can increase the gain across the frequency band while maintaining the polarization of the antenna. The proposed PUM lens considerably reduces design complexity, which is suitable for the various communication applications.
