摘要
Liquid crystal (LC) is an anisotropic material which electromagnetic (EM) characterization can be controlled by an applied external electric field. Recently, the application of LCs in reconfigurable devices for microwave and millimeter-wave applications has gained attention. In this paper, the effective refractive index of a common LC layer (E7) is first calculated as a function of the various applied voltages. Subsequently, a reconfigurable microstrip LC-based phase shifter (PS) is proposed at 10 GHz and, then is fabricated, and tested. For simplicity of the manufacture and cost-effectiveness, the design is entirely based on the printed circuit board (PCB) technology.
