Leipzig University Library after Reunification

After German reunification in 1990 the reform of Leipzig University, which up until then had been dominated by Marxist-Leninism, also touched its library. The central library, the Bibliotheca Albertina, had been mostly in ruins since 1945. During the ten years of reconstruction the library remained open which meant a great deal of extra work for the librarians. Due to a big influx of funds and thanks to a reorganisation of their workflow the librarians succeeded in quickly providing printed and other sources for the new professors. They also succeeded in modernizing many of the branch libraries.
