This study focused on shopping arcades and aimed to understand what kind of atmosphere people perceive when they look at street photographs of a shopping arcade, as well as the characteristics that promote or hinder the atmosphere. We also examined whether these characteristics were preferred or not preferred. The results showed that each shopping arcade has its own unique atmosphere. We found that some of the characteristics that promote or hinder these atmospheres are common to each shopping arcade, and some are unique in each shopping arcade. In addition, these characteristics were inferred to be significantly related to preference. © 2024 Architectural Institute of Japan. All rights reserved.
