This project is designed to create the conditions under which frequency can be optimized in surface hardening operations carried out at frequencies from 20 to 100 kHz, allowance being made for technological criteria and cost aspects, especially the frequency-dependent generator costs. The correlations between surface power density, period of exposure, surface temperature, heat penetration and frequency are determined by computer-assisted evaluation. Characteristic curves are drawn to show the desired heat penetration, power input and period of exposure as a function of frequency for cylindrical workpieces. The relationship between heat penetration and depth of case is determined.
