Engineering quality has been the principal goal of this first major, systematic application of modern computer-aided design methods by Boeing to a mainline commercial aircraft. The 767 program committed over 7000 drawing shets to CAD techniques - about 35% of the total drawing sheets, covering most of the plane's primary aircraft structure. The drawings are created using APT, using a combination of APT and computer graphics, or simply computer graphics. The APT graphics technique has been generally used where three-dimensional surface definition has been required or families of parts are involved. APT is used to create geometry. The file is then transferred from the IBM APT through the data base to an interactive computer graphics system for final drawing.
