A survey of the major U. S. phosphate deposits is given with emphasis on their geological aspects and economic potential. Along the southeastern Atlantic seaboard, from south Florida to Virgina, sedimentary marine phosphate deposits of Miocene to Holocene age occur. Only those deposits in central and north Florida and North Carolina are presently being mined. Deposits of varying economic significance also occur in Georgia and South Carolina, but at present are not being mined.
