This report presents results of a survey of mining equipment and of two demonstration programs showing the feasibility of quieting a load-haul-dump (LHD) machine and a personnel vehicle. Typical noise levels are presented for the major machine types used in underground mines, along with estimates of the noise exposure of miners who operate or work near these machines.
