For nearly every job situation, the safety equipment industry has designed a particular type of protective equipment. Through technology, the industry keeps abreast of new materials capable of resisting attack from acids, caustics, heat, or cold. Gloves designed for particular types of jobs are thus available, including gloves for slippery and oily jobs, palm pads to protect against sharp edges, gloves with metal wires interwoven into the palm, or special ″nubs″ for ease of handling rough material, and fine rubber or synthetic materials for use where dexterity and sanitation are required or for prevention of contact with materials to which the worker may be allergic. Six-fingered gloves, reversible gloves, fluorescent gloves to aid signalling, finger cots, plus an array of barrier creams and protective films are all available.
