Talc production in Europe is dominated by the French company Talc de Luzenac and its subsidiaries. Talc de Luzenac is the only producer of this mineral in France and operates an opencast mine at Trimouns on the northern slopes of the Pyrenees near Ax les Thermes. In this article a description is given of the geology and mineralogy of the deposit followed by an account of mining operations and the equipment involved. Consideration is also given to the mineral processing, properties and end-uses of talc.
