In FM broadcast transmitters the pilot-tone system is used for transmitting the stereo signal. The worldwide used method for generating stereo encoded signal has great advantages but the phase response of the necessary low-pass filter limits the channel separation. The new Mixed Digital method described in this paper uses a special - digitally produced - switching signal, which can be used in stereo encoders and decoders. Using this signal the filter will be simpler and its phase response will be automatically good.
