The application of a novel finite-difference scheme for calculating three-dimensional, incompressible flows in rotating radial diffusers which are partially-parabolic in nature is described. Turbulence phenomena are represented by a two-equation turbulence model involving the solution of two additional differential equations, one for the kinetic energy of turbulence and the other for its dissipation rate. It has been demonstrated that the partially-parabolic solution procedure is superior to the parabolic one when rotational effects are large. The numerical predictions have been compared with the available experimental results and a simplified potential flow analysis. An attempt has also been made to predict the performance characteristics of a straight radial impeller.
