The development of a computational model, capable of capturing fine details of sheet metal forming process is presented. The elastoplastic constitutive model is found to account for finite elastic and finite plastic deformations and targets applications where membrane shell theory can be used. The implementation issues of the covariant formulation of the finite deformation elastoplasticity in its full generality are also addressed. It is suggested that a crucial role in the solution to the finite deformation problem of elastoplastic membrane is played by the scalar function of a tensor pair.
