A moisture variation model (MVM) for the dry-end variations of the paper machine is formulated. It is derived from the drying curve model (DCM) of C. Lindeborg and the process characteristics. A distinctive feature of MVM is that the nonlinear behavior of the drying process is considered, which is necessary to obtain sufficient accuracy. Applications of the model are improved moisture control by more rapid process information, process optimization, variation analysis and cross-machine profile control.
