Conditions of Formation of a Grainy Pearlite Structure During Hot Plastic Deformation of a Pre-eutectoid Steel.

It is shown experimentally that a reduction of the deformation temperature to Ar, is not a sufficient condition for obtaining a grainy pearlite structure after hot plastic deformation and cooling in air. Cementite of globular shape can be obtained by using low heating temperatures prior to rolling, when an insufficiently homogeneous initial austenite is formed. Spheroidization of the cementite after hot plastic deformation is promoted by accelerated cooling in the ″deformation temperature-austenite decomposition temperature″ range. It was not found possible to obtain a large proportion of grainy pearlite in the structure of pre-eutectoid steel immediately after hot plastic deformation.
