One of the two chemical recovery boilers at Tasman Pulp and Paper Company's plant a Kawerau, New Zealand required a total rebuild mainly as a result of cold side corrosion of the water wall tubes. Tasman staff, conceived an innovative approach involving the pre-assembly of relatively large modules constructed while the old boiler was operating. These modules required special lifting and handling equipment together with the temporary construction of a prefabrication workshop and a large opening in the boiler house structure for entry of the modules.
