Alberta kraft pulp mills initiated a study, supported in principle by Alberta Environmental Protection, to develop a strategy to standardize groundwater monitoring license requirements at the mills. Based on historical operational data, it was proposed that the compliance groundwater monitoring programs could be reduced to incorporate a discrete number of indicator parameters for each primary contaminant source area, while not compromising the objectives of the monitoring programs.
