From the engraving company founded in 1868 in Vienna grew an imperial and royal court market leader in labels for the entire Hapsburg monarchy. The company survived economic crises between the wars and survived the second world war. In 1945, the company expanded its range of products. The increasing production of consumer goods in the I960's and thereby increased demand for labels brought a powerful thrust of innovation. Multicolor book printing and dry offset machines were developed. The crises of the 1970's made way for the trade in self adhesive tapes. In the 1980's and 1990's there was rapid development with UV letterpress, flexographic, and screen printing at the company. By 1993, the company expanded from Vienna to Vienna-Strebersdorf. In the past five years the company has increased its staff to about 115 persons. The Ulrich label company is a market leader in self adhesive labels with a sales growth of 12%/year to 200 million schillings (1998). The growth in production has enabled the purchase of new machines and increase of plant area to 4,400 sq m. In 1954 a family member established a label operation in Australia. The company has a modern preprint stage. Its labels include those for the foodstuffs and beverage, chemical and petrochemical, and pharmaceutical industries. Since 1995 the company has applied quality management to ISO 9001 conformance.
