FLY-BY-WIRE FOR VERTICAL LIFT.

The discussion presented in this paper is intended to foster the application of Fly-by-Wire and related advanced flight control technologies to vertical lift vehicles. The paper first surveys the advantages of fly-by-wire and some options in systems development; second, documents the demonstration of fly-by-wire through a discussion of the U. S. Army Heavy Lift Helicopter Program; and, finally, describes the atlernative fly-by-wire system designed for the UH-61A helicopter and compares it with the baseline dual mechanical flight control system.
