By continuous analysis of the produced gases from a small packed bed reactor, at both isothermal and linearly increasing temperatures, it was found that combustion of crude oil in porous media follows several consecutive reactions. A model is proposed to analyze and differentiate between these reactions. The results of this analysis and also correlations of apparent hydrogen-carbon ratio and molar carbon dioxide - carbon monoxide ratio showed the occurrence of major reactions at different temperatures. The results of laboratory experiments, using four different crude oils in a specially designed apparatus, are compared with the proposed model. The effects of additives such as clay on the constants of reactions are also investigated.
