Rapid Method for Calculating System Parameters in Case of Viscous Dissipation of Mechanical Energy in Flowing, Highly, Viscous Liquids.

Equations are proposed for the computation of the power input and outlet pressure of a simple screw pump on the basis of several simplifying assumptions under the conditions of viscous heat generation. A Newtonian fluid with extremely high viscosity ( mu greater than 10**3 Pa. s) is considered, a situation encountered with some polymeric materials. The relationships derived make it possible to estimate the temperature rise and the viscosity decrease along the axial coordinate of the screw.
