The permissible values for voltage fluctuations which are adopted in various countries, as well as the requirements on short-circuit power of the electric system supplying a steel-works equipped with arc furnaces are presented. Methods of assessing the increase in voltage fluctuations resulting from simultaneous operation of several furnaces are compared. The conditions for simultaneous operation of three 140 tons ultra high power furnaces and results yielded by measurements of voltage fluctuations in the electric system are discussed and the effects of these furnaces on the 110 kV - and 220 kV - electric systems.
