The use of adaptive multichannel lattice/escalator filters to realize a generalized sidelobe canceller is proposed. The filter's weighting coefficients are updated using a least-mean-square algorithm. The performances of the proposed methods are compared to that of a tapped-delay-line (TDL) counterpart by means of computer simulations for both fixed and moving interference (jamming) sources. The learning curves and beam patterns indicate that the escalator realization performs best, while the lattice realization works better than the TDL counterpart in the time domain. The resulting beam patterns show that the escalator realization yields the most consistent directional gains, while the lattice realization gives more consistent beam patterns than the TDL counterpart.
