Glow Polymerization in the Positive Column - 1. Experimental Results and General Model Representation.

This paper reports on experiments which were carried out in order to study the mechanism of ″glow polymerization″ which takes place when monomers are exposed to electrical discharges. The monomers styrene, benzene, benzene derivatives, acrylics, and chloroethylene were mixed with argon used as a carrier gas. Effect of process variables on the course of polymerization and polymer composition was determined and results are plotted and discussed. Reaction kinetics were also determined and reaction model is suggested.
