Drilling fluids can be classified for quality control

Low solids (high as well as low weight), high quality drilling fluid is important on a drilling operation. Increasingly sophisticated hydraulics, bit selection and rotary speed- bit weight programs are being planned by drilling engineers. If such pro- grams are to achieve desired results, high quality fluids are a prerequisits. To help Loffland Brothers Co. 's drilling personnel to easily and quickly gain an indication of drilling lfuid quality, Loffland's engineering staff developed a drilling fluid classification chart, which is shown and whose use is explained. Benefits gained in using a high quality drilling fluid are stressed.
