Noise immunity of reception with unreliable signal cancellation in communications systems employing multiposition Gray code PSK and DPSK signals

Many communications systems employ multiposition phase-shift keying (PSK) and differential phase-shift keying. A Gray keying code is used in virtually all cases where the number of versions (positions) of the signal is M = 2k, where k is the modulation factor (an integer). However, there has been no noise immunity calculation for such signals and existing results do not fully satisfy design requirements. This study analyzed the noise immunity of reception with unreliable signal cancellation and calculated the error probability and the cancellation probability for coherent reception of PSK signals (CRPSK) and optimum noncoherent reception of DPSK signals (ONRDPSK).
