摘要
Methods of approximate variable separation in the theory of weakly inhomogeneous dielectric waveguides are analyzed, and the problem of finding an optimal method of approximate variable separation whose applicability is unrelated to the form of the dielectric-permittivity distribution of the waveguide is mathematically formulated and solved. Specific examples are given to demonstrate the effectiveness of the method.
