摘要
The Intelsat worldwide communications satellite network requires replacement of its geostationary satellites at regular intervals due to limited life span as well as increasing demand for transmission capacity. This paper describes the technical characteristics and innovations of the satellite type IS V and compares a few selected features with the currently operational IS IV-A. The new communications satellite call for modifications on the existing earth stations. The Leuk earth station in Switzerland, illustrates this point.
