A description is given of the electrical and mechanical design of the synchronous generator used in the motor- generator set. The main topics handled include the development of the required moment of inertia without employing an additional flywheel, the structural measures taken to handle the constant reversal of the torque in the shafting, and the oil supply system with its particularly high safety factor.
