Monitoring and control systems incorporating mini- and microcomputers are profoundly affecting batch process operations. Sensors and controllers are changing, new automation concepts are being introduced, distributed configurations are being implemented, and training is improving. The advances are being accomapnied by new demands for skills on the parts of instrumentation specialist.
