Strength Calculations Based on Failure Mechanics Criteria.

A general approach to the problem of strength calculation in the presence of cracks is considered. Recommendations are presented on selection of the safety factor from crack resistance of the part with a permissible-length crack. Strength calculations for a stretched strip with a through central crack and for a thin-walled pipe under internal pressure with an axial surface semielliptical crack are demonstrated by means of examples.
