Studying a modulation speech signal model for vocoder systems

A speech wave represented as a complex oscillation, being a result of modulation of voice source signal in harmonic amplitudes and phases, is considered. The recurrent form of a modulating message representation is determined. The results of analysis of approximation accuracy using a real speech signal and the results of pair comparisons with a bandpass model, widely used in vocoder systems, are given. The modulation signal model provides a higher quality of synthesized speech as compared to the bandpass model and it can be used as a basis for designing multispeed synthetic telephone systems.
