GENERATION OF ACOUSTIC OSCILLATIONS IN A RIJKE TUBE WITH A DOUBLE GAUZE SYSTEM.

The excitation of acoustic oscillations in a tube by means of a heated gauze (Rijke gauze) with an unheated gauze placed over it is discussed. Experimental data are given on the existence of excitation regions that recur periodically as the auxiliary gauze is moved farther away from the main element. A theory is formulated to account qualitatively for the data obtained in this and previously published papers in terms of entropy waves generated after the first gauze and their influence on the heat transfer in the second gauze.
