Electronic data interchange changing petroleum industry's basic business transactions

Oil and gas companies using information technology to cut costs and save time are changing the character of basic business transactions. A standardize process called electronic data interchange (EDI) is increasingly being used in place of traditional physical documents such as purchase orders, invoices and delivery tickets. The savings so far have been great and are potentially much greater.
