Cytotoxic effect of 2,4-dinitro-6-methylphenol, sevin, betanal, carbathion, cineb, tetramethyl thiuram disulfide, trichlorfon, metaphos, and copper sulfate on human embryo fibroblasts was studied. The toxicity of the pesticides in vitro and in vivo was different; that allowed a conclusion of the limited value of cell cultures for determining the approximate toxicity of chemical compounds. The reaction of cells to the action of pesticides from various chemical groups was stereotypic, but showed features specific for every chemical agent alone.
