Dolby stereo, already available in stereo video is considered for television and motion pictures. It offers a wide spread of sound to match the picture, a greater dynamic range than is at present practical from television. Care in presentation can help bring the public back to the cinema, with an experience more impressive than domestic television can provide. It is encouraging that recently cinema chains have recognized this and have been prepared to invest in those cinemas which they wish to keep. The trend now - particularly in the USA - is towards larger, better equipped cinemas that can take advantage of new technology to be attractive.
