OVERLOOKED TECHNIQUES FOR CONTROLLING OCCUPATIONAL INJURY AND DISEASE LOSSES.

The author perceives four basic techniques for reducing worker compensation costs. Three deal with preventing the accident or disease and the fourth deals with after-the-accident efforts to keep the benefits down to realistic but fair levels. These techniques are: elimination of hazards in the work and in the workplace; training of employees in safe practices and safety awareness; elimination of high risk persons from exposure of themselves or others to injury or disease; and cooperation with the compensation benefits administrator in defending and processing claims.
