摘要
Extremely high reliability is required of ERW OCTG and line pipe for arctic service. To establish welding technology for making defect-free welds, a study was made of the relationship among the welding conditions, welding phenomena and weld defects. Based on the findings of the study, an automatic weld heat input controller was completed and installed on the 14-in. ERW pipe mill of Nagoya Works. The system realizes and maintains optimum welding phenomenon by feedforward and feedback control. It has performed as expected, sharply reducing weld defects and permitting the stable production of high-quality ERW pipe.
