摘要
Fatigue failures or brittle fractures have seldom, if ever, occurred in tall buildings. However, the possible effects of wind and earthquake loads make consideration of the two phenomena necessary in the design of such structures. This chapter discusses loadings causing fatigue; low-cycle and high-cycle fatigue; brittle fracture, toughness testing and criteria; fracture mechanics and lamellar tearing; inspection and quality control of welded and bolted connections; and various material properties and loading factors to consider in designing for fatigue and fracture.
