How explosive peening affects fatigue properties in maraging steel, Fortiweld and an Al, Zn, Mg alloy- 2

摘要
It is suggested that the beneficial effect of explosive peening is due principally to changes in the lattice which occur during the passage of a strong shock wave and to the lattice defects introduced. The improved fatigue properties cannot be ascribed to strain hardening, plastic deformation of the grains or a favorable change in weld toe profile. However, residual compressive stresses cannot be completely discounted as a factor.
