Effects of titanium and aluminum variations on an iron- nickel superalloy

The effect of Ti and Al variations on eta (Ni//2Ti) and U- (ni//3)Al, Ti() solvus temperatures and on mechanical properties of Pyromet 860 were evaluated. Results show that both elements influence the U- solvus temperature. However, increasing the titanium has a much greater effect in raising the eta solvus temperature than increasing aluminum. High strength is developed in alloys that are thermomechanically processed at temperatures below their eta solvus and subsequently solution treated and aged.
