Analysis on the selective cell discarding of ATM networks

One of the most important problems that must be solved in the ATM networks is the selective cell discarding (SCD). A two-priority selective cell discarding method was suggested and analyzed under the condition of discrete time cell arrival. The defect of Poisson arrival process in Hebuterne's paper was then remedied. Through introducing the π operator, an iteration algorithm that can accelerate the speed of convergence in calculating the cell-loss probability was suggested. Besides, the effectiveness of the SCD in the ATM networks was proved by the numerical results.
