A lightweight flame retardant tenting finish based on the coreaction of Fyrol 76, a vinylphosphonate oligomer, with a melamine-formaldehyde resin is described. The finish is applicable to conventionally dyed, pigment dyed or loom-state cotton and polyester/cotton fabrics. Water repellency and mildew resistance are obtained by a separate application of suitable agents. Formulations and performance properties for a variety of fabrics are presented.
